Arcade Fire presents "The Suburbs"

Developments over at Arcade Fire.com.

Could be the title of the new album, could be a new song, could be the title of the short film they've been working on with Spike Jonze. But something is definitely called "The Suburbs" and Arcade Fire are presenting it. First they had a banner up there that said "Arcade Fire presents 'The Suburbs'". Now it only says "Arcade Fire presents", but if you check out the source code you'll still find this post's title in the header.

E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G.

Stay tuned. This post will be updated with more news as/if it happens.

Update
"The Suburbs" has now been removed from the source code as well.

Update #2
Previously been reported the working title for the Spike Jonze and Arcade Fire short film was "Scenes from the Suburb". However, I'm now hearing people in the know claiming the official name of the shooting down in Austin, TX was "The Suburbs". So I'm starting to lean more and more towards The Suburbs is referring to that. I think it's too close after the shooting finished to expect the full thing right now, but a trailer or something like it might perhaps be in line. I really hope the new website launches soon.

This would seem so much more exciting a couple months ago before the new Broken Social Scene album and the new Stars album surfaced. But I dunno. The title seems kind of boring, but maybe it's the beauty in boredom of suburban life. (:

I like it, assuming it is the album title. No overthought crap. Should the theme revolve around suburbs then why not just call it "The Suburbs". I'm a fan of naming things appropriately. Rather than joining the "I bet you haven't heard those two words placed together before" trend.

Do you think we'll have anything by friday or saturday?

It does seem they're lining up something. Could happen.

This is a lie. The title is up and then gone!?! I can't take this anymore. All the news about Arcade Fire is just a bunch of maybies. No one EVER has a for sure answer! It's killing me. Do they have an album in the works or not? I don't know..maybe this is just stress from wanting the album for so long and they just keep pushing the date longer and longer! Ugh, kill me now please.

Now that^ is all I'm hoping for. It seems very possible at this point to blend in with the theme, don't you think? Suburbs and friends growing apart...

Wow, you're on pitchfork, classy!

Hey do you think they will play LENIN? I'm dying to hear it live...

joel said...

I think Lenin is going to be played quite rarely.

I was looking through your older posts (since I just discovered your site, which is just spectacular! I am always hard-pressed to find some Arcade Fire news and your site was like hitting oil.) and I saw that you had two posts: "Update: Scenes from the Suburb wrap party" and "Spike Jonze & Arcade Fire - Scenes from the Suburb..." and I think The Suburbs may just be the title for that film.

Either way! I'm excited to no end about the film and the album (ok...more so the album) and any news is good news!

haha!

It's sooo funny to browse around looking for "Arcade Fire presents the suburbs" and everyone mentions "Eagle-eye Joel"!

Soon we'll need a special password to write something here on "the" Joel's blog!

:-D

JoeFeldmann; Thanks for those kind words! And yeah, I'm leaning towards that it's a trailer for the Spike Jonze short film.

J; Haha!

Hi(First-time commenter)

I'm just as excited for the album as anybody

And I moused over the banner and I think it links to something

I didn't click on it cause I wasn't brave enough, :P but does anyone else know what I goes to?

joel said...

Hey Bryan!
It's just a link to the main page so you can easily get there from other posts, like the Haiti one.

Sorry to derail the short film theory a bit, but I think you all might find this a bit interesting: stumbled upon it while I was skimming Amazon vinyl preorders this afternoon.

I just saw a postcard on their website with one side that was a picture from the movie and the other side a note saying that they would be releasing a 12" soon.
