Pitchfork claims it's a concept album and it does seem likely doesn't it! Also very cool Jeremy has been helping out with the percussion. Januari 11 can't come soon enough! I've said it before and I'll say it again: 2010 > 2009.Heartland exists. The third Final Fantasy full-length and the first for Domino, it is the product of nine months of work in four countries. Heartland is a fully orchestral record, designed to exist simultaneously as an album, a 45-minute piece of orchestral music and a set of songs for looped violin and voice. Heartland will be released by Domino on Monday the 11th of January 2010. Owen Pallett explains:
"The songs themselves form a narrative concerning a farmer named Lewis and the fictional world of Spectrum. The songs are one-sided dialogues with Lewis, a young, ultra-violent farmer, speaking to his creator."
"The album was compositionally modeled upon the principles of electronic music. The principles of analog synthesis informing symphonic writing, like an inversion of a Tomita record. These songs, too, were designed to be as dense with polyphony as the Final Fantasy live shows can become. While writing it, I kept an image in my head of putting so many notes on the page that the paper turned black."
"This record encapsulates a whole year of work for me, and was difficult to see through, but immensely proud of the results. I hope you enjoy it."
Work began in earnest in November 2008, when Pallett and Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara flew to Reykjavik to work at The Greenhouse, Valgeir Siggurdsson's studio (Björk's Medulla, Bonnie "Prince" Billy's The Letting Go) with engineer Mio Þórrison at the board. The orchestra was recorded January 2009, in Prague, with the Czech Symphony. Other guests include Matt Smith (Nifty), Reg Vermue (Gentleman Reg) and Nico Muhly. Rusty Santos, who produced Animal Collective's Sung Tongs and mixed Panda Bear's Person Pitch, was taken on as mixer.
He and Owen worked together in Toronto and New York over the summer of 2009 putting the finishing touches on Heartland.

Jeremy remixar
Jeremy, eller 'Lessons' som han valt att kalla sig när han får i uppdrag att remixa låtar åt band har varit ordentligt i farten. Till att börja med har han remixat Crooked Legs från det mycket bra bandet The Acorn.

That's right! two of my favorite people have just completed two amazing remixes of songs from NHWvol1. Tim Hecker and Jeremy Gara(Arcade Fire) have remixed "Time is Advancing..." and "And it fought to escape" , respectively, and the remixes and source tracks will be released this spring on limited edition picture vinyl by my friends at Aagoo! More specific info about the release to come.

Det här är nog fortfarande den mest.. uhm.. udda intervju jag någonsin hört. Den 24:e mars förra året intervjuades Jeremy och Sarah i Arcade Fire av Nardwuar. Det här samtalet är så sjukt så jag vet inte vart jag ska ta vägen bitvis. Man vill bara sjunka under marken ibland, asgarva ibland och ibland, ja ibland vill man bara skrika ut 'VA?!'Sweden that we just played was really beautiful and that was on this crazy island. Earlier today Stephen Harper suggested that ordinary Canadians would understand the cuts his government made to the culture.
And suggested "ordinary Canadians" might not understand rich people (referring to artists) sitting around complaining about their lack of grants.

ordinary like... you, stephen harper? the CBC reported in 2004 that the prime minister makes somewhere between $250,000 and $300,000 a year.
the house of commmons sits for what, 8 months of a year? not a bad salary for taking a third of the year off...
i'm extremely lucky to be in a very successful band (i dare you to try to argue we just sit around and eat grant money), and i would bet you made more money than i did last year, mister PM. i see a lot of my friends not in super successful rock bands depend on grant money for rent and food, to PAY for their work (working harder than you do?) at their art, with the hopes of gaining enough success to eke out a living at it.
i'd agree, maybe, that most people struggling to make their art are NOT like ordinary canadians, only because they make well BELOW the national average of income. and if you consider yourself to be an ordinary canadian, stephen harper, then the tie that binds must be hockey or coffee or something because you sure make a lot more money that most canadians i know.
in the end, and it's just a broad sweeping general sort of insult, not totally based in knowing anything about you (but that's sort of your style, no?)... but in the end i'd argue that you, stephen harper, are the rich man that sits around a third of the year on a salary we all chip in towards, listening to music and watching movies made by people who work a hell of a lot harder than you do.
i'm going to try my hardest to VOTE YOU OUT OF THERE.

hurricane - haiti
there's still a lot of haiti underwater right now. if you can do without a couple drinks this weekend or find a $20 bill behind the couch or something, every little bit of help would go a really long way. if you haven't donated to partners in health yet (or if you haven't read about what they do), now's a really good time.

hey stephen harper. nicely timed, with all this election chatter and all. most people, when they're not happy with their jobs, find a new one before they quit the old one. you wouldn't turf a pair of sneakers before you had a new pair, would you? not sneakers, no... but the arts! well...
so what are your new and improved plans for all those funding moneys? you know, for the people who've essentially lost their jobs (ie: you fired). you wouldn't close a manufacturing plant without some options for the workers in it, would you? wait... would you?
you fancy yourself a music fan, yet you have no respect for musicians. shame. you probably enjoy film, too. what hypocrisy!

Snailhouse
Nya skivan Lies On The Prize från Snailhouse som släpps någon gång i juni kan bli riktigt intressant att lyssna på. Speciellt efter att detta meddelande från Mike Feuerstack, aka Snailhouse, på egna hemsidan:

the new snailhouse recording, lies on the prize, is done and looking for a home. It was recorded by the stalwart yet puckish jeremy gara (arcade fire). Jeremy and i played most of the stuff, but there are also captivating appearances by sarah "a touch of class" neufeld (arcade fire, Bell Orchestre), pietro "lips" amato (torngat, bell orchestre), angela "blue jeans" desveaux (angela desveaux) and jeff "birthday boy" debutte (the acorn).

tonight I was reminded once again, as if maybe things were different now, that most of the stereotypes concerning people in rock bands are dead on accurate. sadly.
"rock band" the video game has more to do with a lot of bands than music does.
i cannot wait to go to north carolina. i long for a more cleansing, heartfelt, down-to-earth, purposeful musical experience.

US NME Awards 2008
Arcade Fire vann ett pris för 'Bästa internationella band' och Jeremy var faktiskt där och tog emot priset. Han var dock lite kryptisk och skämtsamt bara sade detta innan han lämnade scenen:
"I was told the speeches would be longer if the bar was open."
Vilket syftade på att folk som vunnit priser innan honom hållit väldigt korta tacktal och att arrangörerna innan galan börjat konstant tjatade om att baren skulle stänga för att alltihop skulle dra igång. Efteråt fick NME en liten pratstund med honom framför en kamera och man kan väl säga att Jeremy inte direkt är överlycklig att få priset! haha!
